Hugely popular romantasy book series Fourth Wing has been ordered to series by Prime Video.

The new TV show was announced during Amazon Upfront on Monday evening by the series’ executive producers Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo and the author of the book series, Rebecca Yarros.

No names are yet attached for any of the main roles, including Violet Sorrengail, the primary character who is forced by her mother to attend Basgiath War College to become a dragon rider, Xaden Riorson, Rhiannon Matthias, Liam Mairi and Dain Aetos. But we do know that Meredith Averill will be adapting the books for TV and will serve as showrunner, and Lisa Joy will direct the pilot.

“I’m thrilled to be working with this dedicated, experienced team and grateful for their passion for both the books and the readership behind them,” Yarros said in a press release.

Set in the fictitious kingdom of Navarre, Violet and her squad mates face increasingly difficult and perilous challenges to meet, bond with and ride a dragon (or two). The series would presumably follow seasons carved out by each of the three books currently released: Fourth Wing, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm. The fourth and fifth books have not been published yet.

According to Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, Fourth Wing “is one of the most anticipated adaptations in the world.”

“We’re bringing it to life in a way that honors what fans love about the story,” Friedlander said.

Production and release dates have not yet been set by Prime Video.

Amazon announced a whole slate of new and continuing series for its streaming service during Amazon Upfront on Monday, including Ride or Die, Escorted, Rose Hill and the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
