Apple is laying off staff on the Siri and the Vision Pro teams, according to Bloomberg. The cuts include “largely shutting down” a Vision Pro gaming team and “reducing the size” of the team that makes Vision Pro immersive content, the publication says. More than 200 jobs were cut.

Apple said in a statement to Bloomberg it was making the changes to “to evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users,” though it will be making new roles. The company didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment from The Verge.

The Vision Pro launched in early 2024 as Apple’s big bet on “spatial computing,” but the $3,499 headset doesn’t appear to have been a big hit. While Bloomberg reported in May that Apple is working on “a slimmer and lighter headset” to succeed the current Vision Pro (which was updated last year with an M5 chip), a report a few weeks after said that Apple was suspending work with Samsung Display on a display for an entry-level XR machine.

However, following the success of Meta’s smart glasses, Apple is apparently planning to make its own smart glasses, with Bloomberg reporting recently that Apple plans to announce them at WWDC (typically a June event) in 2027 and launch them by the end of that year.

The company finally launched its revamped, AI-powered Siri at this year’s WWDC. The new Siri is set to be available to the public in beta later this year.
