Joe Root will be hoping to make a winning return as captain at Headingley as England takes on Pakistan in the first Test of a three-match series.

This first encounter sees the hosts looking to move on from the “Bazball” era following former skipper Ben Stokes’ recent international retirement and the departure of Brendon McCullum as Test head coach. With Stokes stepping aside, Root has been installed as his able replacement as captain, marking the Yorkshire star’s second stint in the role following his four-year spell between 2017 and 2022.

Pakistan will, meanwhile, be endeavoring to win its first Test series in England in 30 years, but it will have to make do without skipper Babar Azam at Headingley after he failed to shake off an injury to his right hand.

The first Test between England and Pakistan begins on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds. Play starts at 11:00 a.m. BST, 3 p.m. PKT, 3:30 p.m. IST, 6 a.m. ET, 3 a.m. PT, 8 p.m. AEST, 10 p.m. NZST and noon SAST.

How to watch England vs. Pakistan online from anywhere using a VPN

If you’re traveling abroad and want to keep up with all the One-Day International series action while away from home, a VPN can help enhance your privacy and security when streaming.

It encrypts your traffic and prevents your internet service provider from throttling your speeds. Additionally, it can be helpful when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks while traveling, providing an extra layer of protection for your devices and logins. VPNs are legal in many countries, including the US and Canada, and can be used for legitimate purposes such as improving online privacy and security.

However, some streaming services may have policies that restrict VPN use for accessing region-specific content. If you’re considering a VPN for streaming, check the platform’s terms of service to ensure compliance.

If you choose to use a VPN, follow the provider’s installation instructions to ensure you’re connected securely and in compliance with applicable laws and service agreements. Some streaming platforms may block access when a VPN is detected, so verifying if your streaming subscription allows VPN use is crucial.
